My practice is informed by Jungian psychoanalysis.
I have additional postgraduate training in the provision of longer-term psychotherapy for people experiencing long standing or complex issues. More than just symptom management, longer-term psychotherapy is suited for those seeking to understand and resolve underlying factors that contribute to and perpetuate their problems.
I do not work diagnostically nor do I pathologise. I believe that the human psyche is self-healing given the right conditions. I focus on providing those conditions. This healing and growth can seldom be controlled by our egos. However, it always moves towards greater wholeness and integration.
I work with the whole person, which includes the mental, emotional, somatic, and spiritual levels. I can help people who are struggling with a range of concerns including depression, anxiety, overwhelm, grief and loss, relational difficulties, trauma and complex trauma, low self-esteem, insecurities, major life transitions, and problems with eating.
Psychoanalytic therapy is very well suited to address difficulties less commonly discussed in clinical spaces also, such as existential crises and the search for meaning, spiritual emergence, taboo topics (e.g., sexual tendencies, death, etc) , feeling different and alone, and mid-life crises.
Structure and fees
I provide psychotherapy to people aged 16 and older at a consistent appointment time on a weekly, twice-weekly, or a fortnightly basis. My work typically involves longer-term engagement because it goes beyond just reducing the symptoms. It is focused on the underlying deeper patterns and causes that actually create the symptoms and suffering. In such a way achieved change is sustainable.
The reality is that the vast majority of people need more than short-term therapy (i.e., more than 12-20 sessions) to come to a resolution. The Australian Psychological Society's current suggestion that psychologists charge $311 per hour makes full recovery unrealistic for most. My vision is to offer longer-term care and recovery that is more affordable. My fees are set lower to reflect this approach.
The current fee for a 50-minute session is $220. I offer a discount for each session if we arrange to meet twice per week. With a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or psychiatrist, you will be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $141.85 per session for 10 sessions each calendar year.
